Officers said that while criminals sometimes force their way in, lately they have often been relying on some type of scam or pretext to get residents to open doors. Call the LAPD for their free information sheet which includes many hints to avoid becoming a victim. Also, consider adding a burglary safe to your home for valuables and extra cash on hand. Otherwise, you could wind up being a victim as well!

The number of people and businesses who are investing in a safe or safes, has been on the rise along with the continuous rise in crime. There are so many different types of safes that cover an amazing array of uses. For businesses the most common safes are those that are designed to hold cash, homeowners have a much broader array of needs and as such there are a much wider selection of safes to cover these needs.

For the average retail business, the most common style of safe is the under the counter drop safe. This type of safe is designed to be secured under the counter near the cash register. The idea behind it is that the cashier drops excess cash and big bills into the slot instead of leaving them in the register. With the safe out of sight and the manager the only one with the keys, would be robbers would not have access to large amounts of cash.

At the same time, have a drop safe like this in your business along with very strict cash drop guidelines for your cashiers, has been proven to be very effective as a means of cutting down on the number of employees stealing cash. At the same time you can add a properly rated cash safe in your office to store the daily intake until you have a chance to go to the bank and make a deposit, further protecting your income.

There are several different categories of safes that come under the auspices of those intended for homeowners. For the most part the average homeowner needs a simple safe that is big enough to hold important papers, perhaps a little cash and pieces of valuable jewelry. This type of safe in often not much bigger in size than a shoe box and can be kept hidden out of sight. The main requirements beside security are that it is both fire and waterproof in case of a disaster that destroys or damages the home.

The number of homes that have some form of firearm has risen dramatically in the last decade as more people no longer feel safe in their homes. You should never leave any kind of firearm out where a child can get ahold of it, sadly every year there are far too many deaths caused by this exact problem. The solution is to place any guns in your home into a gun safe. They are available in sizes made just for handguns or large enough to hold several rifles and boxes of ammunition.

Gun safes are one of the areas where locking technology has been changing rapidly in the last few years. One of the biggest concerns for homeowners is that if their guns are locked up, they might not be able to fumble with a combination lock and get their weapon out in a hurry if necessary. The other complaint is what happens if one of the kids figures out the combination and then gets into their safe?

To answer both of these problems with a single solution took the industry a while to develop a solution. Today you can buy gun safes that have a biometric locking system built into them. Rather than relying on a key or a combination lock of any style, these safes use the latest scanning technologies available. When you set your safe up you and anyone else that you want to be able to access the safe will use the biometric scanner to enter your fingerprint into the memory.

Now if you want to access the safe you simply scan the appropriate finger and the locks will be released. This way you can have rapid access to your guns in the event of an emergency and at the same time keep out any one that does not belong in there. This type of gun safe is rapidly gaining in popularity as parent seek better ways to keep a gun in the house and still keep their kids safe.

At Dean Safe we have found that most people end up buying the wrong type of safe for their needs because the retailer they are buying it from do not carry a wide enough selection of safes. We carry one of the largest selections of ratings and sizes of safes from 20 different manufacturers available. This selection allows us to find the perfect safe by fitting the safe to the customer’s needs rather than trying to fit the customer to the safe, which usually ends up with them getting the wrong safe for their needs.

Thanks for coming back to read our next installment of “Exploring the products of V-Line, an American manufacturer of fine safes”.

We are going to be taking a close-up look at the Hide-away pistol box. By putting the combination into the front of the this product, the front panel drops down which allows quick access to your handgun or other valuables.

V-Line’s Hide-Away Handgun Safes and Desk Mate model are designed to easily install under a bed, desk, or counter with the included Quick Release Mounting Bracket.

The Hide-Away handgun safe’s front opening door drops down to allow the felt lined inner drawer to slide out for easy access to contents. Measuring 11 ½” x 7” x 2” the drawer is large enough to comfortably hold most sized handguns plus a badge, wallet, or second firearm. The Hide-Away is also ideal for securing small valuables, jewelry, or medicines out of sight and reach of children and household visitors.

The Hide-Away is 12 ½” x 9” x 3 ½”, (Outside Dimensions) 11 ½” x 7” x 2”, (Inside Dimensions) and weighs 18 pounds. It is a California DOJ approved handgun safe for storing your handguns. Thanks for taking the time to read this installment, we’ll be back soon with another close look at one of V-Line’s tough, attractive American made safes.

Memorial day is coming and so is the summer. Time when families have the opportunity to take some time out and to leave town on vacation and to have some fun away from home. While you are away, are your valuables safe? Common sense tells us to lock our doors, make sure the coffee maker and electronics are off and to put a timer on a light to give the appearance that we are home.

But what about other things that you should consider before you leave your home unprotected. The following are some things to consider before you leave.

Make sure that you have stopped the newspaper

Make sure that your valuables are in a good safe. This is an important step. Not just your valuable jewelry, silver and other collectibles, but you need to put birth certificates, credit cards, social security cards and all other items that will give a burglar access to your identity. Make sure your safe is both burglary and fire resistant and that it is bolted down. A safe up to 1000 pounds is considered portable in the industry and can be easily moved with a refrigerator dolly.

Make sure to have someone stop by periodically to check on your home and make sure that no one has come in and disturbed your property.

Do not leave a message on your voice mail that you are out of town.

You can even leave a radio playing inside your home, rather than have music playing, turn on a talk radio station. This will give the illusion that someone may be home having a conversation if someone is looking to break in.

Make sure any weapons are secured safely also. Do not leave them in the night stand or under the mattress. They need to be locked in a gun safe to protect you from liability if someone steals it and commits a crime with it. This is a good practice even if you are not going on vacation. Lock up your handgun in a good hand gun safe and this will protect your kids as well, as you.

Laptops, hard drives, DVD players, as well as i-pods, cell phones and other electronics should also be placed in a home safe to keep them protected from burglary and fire, while you are away.

Sometimes in the excitement of time away from home and the regular routine helps you to overlook the importance of securing your home and keeping it safe, so it is the same when you get home. Take an extra minute to stop and make sure your valuables are in a home safe to keep them out of the hands of the criminals.

Welcome to our ongoing series “Exploring the products of V-Line, an American manufacturer of fine safes.”

The Top Draw model 2912-S handgun safes give you a traditional top opening lid and classic slim design is a popular unit. An optional Quick Release Mounting Bracket is available to enable the Case to be used in more than one location.

Measuring 12” x 9” x 2 ½” deep, (Outside Dimensions), 11 ¾” x 8 ¾” x 2” (Interior Dimensions) the Top Draw is large enough to accommodate two handguns. Foam lining on top and bottom holds and protects contents securely in place.

V-Line has exaggerated the clamshell design with the door folding over the handgun safe’s body, encompassing it to prevent a prying attack. An inner flange allows the lock bolt to lock into the body of the case, increasing the pry-resistance. A 3/8” thick steel lock block welded to the cover guides and strengthens the lock bolt.

It is a California Dept. of Justice approved handgun safe. Thanks for reading, we’ll be back soon with an up-close look at another of V-line’s tough, attractive safes.
How many important documents and other items do you have in your home? Where do you keep them? If you don’t have a wall safe you may be taking risks with those documents, that jewelry, your family’s silver, and so on. Strongboxes may not protect them enough and keeping things in a bank’s safety deposit box doesn’t give you good access to them either.

There are many reasons to consider a wall safe over any other type of storage and many reasons to consider keeping those items this safe in the first place. You may not think that your home and your documents and valuables are worth the investment in an actual wall safe, but this can be shortsighted. You don’t need to be a multimillionaire to have valuable items that should be stowed away securely and you don’t need to live in a high risk area to need additional protection for these things in the first place.

If you’re still not convinced that a wall safe is for you, consider some of their benefits that you should keep in mind.

Keeping things safe.

Some assume that a wall safe is meant to keep things safe from thieves and may equate them with those old black-and-white movies that show cat burglars sneaking around huge mansions. While it’s true that you do want to keep your valuable items safe from thieves, consider how a wall safe keeps those valuables safe from other potential risks. For example, what if there is a fire in your home; are your documents and jewelry protected? What if there was a flood or other natural disaster?

You might also consider how protected your valuables are if you have persons come into your home on a regular basis. Do you have housekeepers, landscapers, cooks, babysitters, and others in and out of your home? Not having your items put away in a wall safe can invite theft from any of these, and that would be tragic. Anyone with regular traffic in and out of their home would do well to consider this. When you choose a good wall safe rather than a strongbox or other item, you have things not just protected but hidden as well.

Insurance and other costs.

In some cases, a wall safe can mean lowering your insurance costs for the valuables you have. Even if it does not lower those costs, you know that you have less risk of losing your valuables and needing to replace them. This means less cost for you overall, even if you were to have something stolen and then recovered.

You may even see that a wall safe increases the value of your home. With more and more homeowners being aware of risk factors when it comes to natural disasters, these items may be a nice element to have in a home. For yourself and your own peace of mind, it’s good to consider a wall safe for your home no matter the items you want to keep.
